Instructor Joe Corley and Krav Maga Instructor Mike Biorn responded to
community concerns for safety with a free Krav Maga Gun Defense seminar
Saturday in East Cobb County at Joe Corley’s studio in Marietta.

“From Brussels to San Diego to the
nightly and 24 hour news cycle it is indeed normal for people to be on edge”,
Joe Corley said, “ and a number of our regular students’ parents and their
friends had inquired about a personal gun defense seminar. A serious subject
with far reaching ramifications, we covered the preventive methodologies to
avoid potential attacks to the determination of when to take action and if one
should take action. Then, if it is determined that you must try to disarm your
assailant, we covered the attack scenarios from the front, rear and side”.
Krav Maga is the official training regimen taught to the Israeli Defense
Forces (IDF) and has become quite popular here in the United States. “We have
offered Krav Maga for the past 6 years at our studio”, Joe Corley said. “Parents
concerned for their kids going off to college, women insecure in parking
garages and men seeking to protect their families in our new world make up the
bulk of our Krav students.”
Mike Biorn, Black Belt Instructor and
former Naval Officer added, “In our Gun Defense seminars, we stress the
absolute need for repeated practice to gain the dexterity and confidence required
to maximize your success in these situations, but we explain that the initial thought
they put into these initial practice moves raise their awareness levels and will help them avoid
dangerous mistakes.”
“The Krav Maga Gun Defense techniques
made a lot of natural sense to me”, reported Lena Tzanov, a mom who had taken
martial arts lessons 3 decades earlier as a youth. “ My kids have taken Joe
Corley Karate classes for nearly 3 years now, and my husband and I decided we would
like to learn more about the Krav Maga techniques. The seminar was very
